Temporal Perspective

So today was only a partial day for work as we got rained out in the morning and the site was too wet to work.

I went back to the hotel, did some swimming in the pool and soaking in the hot tub.  Then I needed to vacate my room while they cleaned it.

Then I ended up in the lobby and Del Shannon's "Runaway" came on the Muzak system.  Out of curiosity, I Shazamed it, and found out it was released in 1961.

That's approximately 55 years ago.

Recently. I've been thinking about the way we look back on music.  And thought, that that would be like being in 1975 and listening to music from 1920.

Now, I'm not saying that's out of the question, but think about it.

My parents liked to listen to music from the 50s.  Sitting in 1975 that roughly 20 years prior.  That's us listening to mid-90s music now.

In high school, I liked lots of different music, but a favorite was a digitally remastered collection of Glen Miller music.  That's about 45 years prior to 1986.  Right now that would put us in music from 1970.

So, yeah, now we get into a rabbit hole that I think I'll just leave right here.

Time

In my times at home over the six months I wasn’t working, I always knew what time it was.

You see in Emeryville, there is a Clif Bar factory, and they have a whistle/tone just like in “The Flintstones.”  And it goes off at:  7:25, 7:30, 11:25, 11:30, 11:55, 12:00, 3:55, and 4:00.

Additionally somewhere there is a church somewhere nearby, and it has bells that go off at 8:00, 12:00, and 6:00.

However, it wasn’t until this past Friday that I discovered there is something definitely wrong with the church clock.  At 8:00 in the morning it rings 18 times.

Now let’s think about that.  That’s not two tolls for each hour.  It’s also not off by 12 hours and ringing military time.

That’s all.

I blame Jim Croce

So sometimes I sit and wonder about changing the past.

Don't ride on the lawn aerator. Or at least don't take the Frisbee.

Don't jump down stairs. At any age.

Don't drive while looking at the map in the passenger seat.

Others aren't so easy, because they have made me the person I am with the present in which I am happy.

Don't hurt this person. Don't date this person. Show some balls and ask this person out.

Then there are the times that would be great to watch from a third person perspective. I think.
