Thirsty

So, today for Father's Day, I went to my parents' house and cooked breakfast for my dad (and mom too).  I also helped dad go through his storage shed, and drove mom to pick up a prescription so that dad could get a little nap.

Now, of course, I got there via biking and BART.  And it's not like I didn't drink anything while I was there.  I think I had two glasses of orange juice, two glasses of milk, two glasses of water, and a beer.  And while I was on BART, or at least on the platform waiting for the train, I had water from my carrier bottle.

And then when i got home, I had some lemonade, and more water, and thought I'd brew some tea.  For dinner I had a Caesar salad with mushroom and sliced leftover steak.  But apparently I was still very thirsty, because when I sat down to eat, and brought my wine over, the table was already a little crowded with drinks.

Yeah, no idea either.  But at least I'm hydrated.

Wine

We got one of those wine aerators the other day at Costco.  I opened it up, and set it out, when I noticed that it came with directions.  I find the need for directions for an item like that similar to the need for directions to use a toothpick.

Insert screen.

Pour wine.

Drink wine.

Mmmm… wine.

Shipping Suckage

While we were in Oregon we went to some wineries. WE bought some wine, and planned to minimize shipping by packing them together and shipping them home. I even included a ceramic growler of Rogue I had purchased at Saturday Market.

My father-in-law said he would take care of the shipping through his company.

As we had not yet seen the package, I e-mailed him yesterday. Today he e-mailed me back to say that UPS told him that since the contents were wine the package had been destroyed.

All I can say is: What the Hell? Destroyed?

So I looked up UPS' terms and conditions of service, and it says that you have to be licensed shipper of alcohol to use them.

I am stunned and pissed.

Men are here! We make fire...

Last night, Jennifer and I had a dinner for a friend of hers. It was a major team effort.

Jennifer got most everything prepped, and all we (the men) had to do was cook the meat. Carlos got to pan fry some scallops in a sauce that is apparently his specialty. Me, I got to grill the filets.

Now admittedly this is a little better than the typical comedienne's trope that the woman prepares everything and the men cool the meat and call the meal theirs. Jennifer went shopping for the food, but I opened the package of filets, covered them with seasoning (salt-free seasoning from Costco, generous ground black pepper, and a touch of salt. Then they sat for about 3 hours in the fridge.

All three of us like streaks rare to medium rare, and they came out perfectly.

But the wine we drank... Oh, it was so good. Carlos started us off with a 2005 Merryvale Starmont Cabernet Sauvignon. Then with dinner we had a Lava Cap 2004 Petite Syrah. And with dessert a 1999 J Brut champagne.

Wow. And no hangover this morning. I am pretty good at remaining hydrated while drinking.

Oh, with our champagne, Jennifer had made lemon bars and chocolate chip brownies.

One more reason to keep her.
